Everything you need to know before hitting the road with us.
Mid-June to mid-September is ideal. The Manali-Leh Highway typically opens in late May or early June after snow clearance. September offers cleaner roads and fewer crowds. Our expedition is scheduled for this optimal window.
We drive Delhi to Manali to Sarchu to Leh to Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso to Hanle to Umling La to Kargil to Srinagar to Jammu to Delhi. A complete circuit covering all major landmarks over 15 nights and 16 days.
Yes. Inner Line Permits are required for Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, Hanle, and Umling La. FreeWheel arranges all permits as part of the expedition. Carry original ID proof throughout the journey.
Any well-maintained car can do Ladakh but high ground clearance is strongly recommended. Best options are SUVs like Fortuner, Scorpio N, XUV700, and Thar. Avoid lowered vehicles and city cars. Tyres must be in excellent condition before departure.
Leh sits at 3,500m and some passes exceed 5,000m. We build acclimatisation days into the itinerary. Avoid alcohol the first two days in Leh. Carry Diamox if recommended by your doctor and stay hydrated throughout.
Approximately 3,500 to 4,000 km over 16 days, averaging 200 to 280 km per day with rest days built in at Leh and key locations.
We cap convoys at 20 participants to keep the experience personal and manageable. This is not a large group tour. Every vehicle gets attention and no one is left behind.
Yes. Many participants join solo. The convoy format means you always have support around you. Seat sharing options are also available if you prefer company on the drive.
Umling La at 19,024 feet is the world highest motorable road, surpassing even Khardung La. Reaching it is a rare achievement. Our expedition includes a dedicated day to conquer this pass, making it one of the most unique aspects of the Dream Leh Ladakh route.
Fuel is available in Manali, Leh, Kargil, and Srinagar. Remote stretches like Sarchu, Hanle, and Umling La have limited or no fuel. We advise carrying 20 litres extra before entering remote zones. Our briefing covers exact fuel stop planning.
